Thursday 16 March: 575 Wandsworth Road

Whoaa what a delightful discovery. One of those house you would never noticed from the outside but stepping inside it like being transported into another world. The most bijou amazing artist house. Khadambi Asalache spent 19 years handcarving all the details, painting the floors and walls. Mostly from reclaimed wood and recycling. Amazing mixture of fretwork patterns and motifs, details everywhere, his crafts and ceramics collection. I especially loved the corridor/stairwells, all exactly left as he did when he died, the food still in the cupboard, ready for guests to pop round. One very talented person, very worth visiting. They only take 6 person on a tour, no photos and need to leave all bags, coats and shoes behind so best book early. Might try visit it again in the daytime as i imagine it will be very different that at night.

Wow! Looks stunning. The fire in the grate is a little disconcerting with all that filigree work around it.
