Saturday 28 November: Steampunks in Space

We drove to Leicester on Friday night to stay over at Glyn and his lovely family, so in the evenings a great chance to catch up, play a few games and amuse their children with our accountrements each day (it was also their daughter 10 years birthday) and in the daytime we had fun at the National Space Centre filled by Steampunks and the awesome Professor Elemental.

It was an interesting event, not quite sure enough to fill two full days (especially on a returning trip), but as it was our first visit to the National Space Centre, the day was mostly spent exploring it rockets, similators and games whilst taking parts in Tea Dueling, wandering round the market and other exhibition and activities. Simon got even to runner up in tea duelling. Being in a museum was different and great (especially with the awful weather outside)  but also limited i guess, especially as it was just not really my type of museum (very new and sparce and well science space stuff :), also very limited food wise (one cafe with huge queues) and the museum is in middle of nowehere so little other options food wise or drink wise elsewhere...so a very sober affair. We didn't have evening tickets as it was sold out but looks very good inside the planetarium. Amusing to do the odd simulators and a weather podcast :)
I did love their costume competition system, everyone visiting the museum get a gold coin and you give it to your favorite outfit, it was lovely to get given tokens throughout the day, especially by children. Those with more than 30 got a medal :)
Due to some incidents with togs last year, there was a bit of a no photography policy (ok of each other or ask) very much in two minds about this, so as a result mostly photos of us, however the contrast was amusing popping to the Leicester Abbey Pumping Station where all the camera club had gathered :)

The event closed at 5, so we returned to Glyn and did something very alien to us...saturday night tv and takeaway :) but great to spend time with them and played carcassone and love letter :)
