Bali (day 1): Ubud, moonsoon and rice fields [Jan. 9th, 2015|01:49 pm]

Tuesday 16 January
After a very long 3 flights via Amsterdam and Jakarta we arrived in Denpasar in torrential rains on tuesday late afternoon.
The taxi ride to Ubud gave us a glimpse of the beautiful scenery to come, at least the moonsoon stopped when we arrived at our first Homestay (they are their equivalent to our B&B, but they are more like large room/bungalow with balcony in a familial local one house)

The first 5 nights we stayed at Gusti House 2 , highly recommend it...large room but the best is the view overlooking the rice fields (never knew frogs and crikets could be so loud), breakfast of pancakes on the balcony in the morning and a grotto like swimming pool.
That night just about managed to stagger into the first warung (local resto) , which happen to be in a temple like courtyard and have my first fresh coconut (and few first insect bites too)...

Little near by resto ...i was soon to discover such temple are in everysingle house in bali but it still created lots fo whoaaa
