They are natural caves, extensively mined for iron ore to make some of Britain's most complex and oldest mine workings. The mine dates back well over 4,000 years, when early miners dug for ochre pigments to make paints. Iron ore miners later created a warren of underground passageways, by connecting the huge caverns.
The place is massive and they even have a bar and stage near the end, especially for eater they had also been invading by sheep’s to count. Very cool place to visit and being a sunny day pretty much had all cave to ourselves. Wish i could have seen Inkkies when they played there sound fantastic and Candia found the backstage strorage room hidden being the rocks and it was full of snow men, and i guess soon to be filled with sheeps as i think we counted 94!!! http://www.clearwellcaves.com/
