Saturday 19 September: London Open House: Swakeley House
That day we decide to explore a new borough: Hillingdon. Our first stop and the main reason to go that far out was this Jacobean 1630s mansion, not usually open to the public: Swakeley House . Such a shame just two sections of the house were open to the public and you get the feeling they were not so keen on those visitors with plastic covering everywhere you might walk. Covering all the stairs in plastic seemed a bit over the top espcially i don't think that carpet was orginal :). A very lovely painted staircase and great hall, it was nice but very little to see, very little information and slightly grumpy volunteers and no photos (ok i sneak one) was a bit offputting after crossing all london for it but then i didn't even know it excisted until i spotted it in the booklet :) http://events.londonopenhouse.org/building
