Thursday 30 July: Art Nouveau versus Graffiti , Monster Kabinet & disuse Ballroom (Berlin Thursday Part 2)
Discovering this beautiful art Nouveau alleyway: Die Hackeschen Hoefe, filled with posh shops and flowers , so beautiful architecture , incredible staircase too.
In contrast just next door is the very Berlin like alleyway called Haus Schwarzenberg filled with artworks, cool bars, galleries, graffitis and the crazy Monster Kabinet (the next show not being until 6.30pm) until then we went to visit somehting else in the area...a shabby chic ballroom.
Claerchens ballhaus berlin, beautiful beer garden, downstairs a very shiny glitzy resto/ballroom for some dinner dancing, upstairs another world. Even more delapidated than Wilton but full of charms. They do special events there and one candlelit pop up resto gypsy that looks fab. Also excuse for my first green beer :)
Afterward back to the Monster Kabinet: The most insane thing visiting in Berlin was the Monster Kabinet in that alleyway i just posted about. They do a show in the evening that is like walking into a dark basement to be confronted with giant skittering arachnoid robots, singing malformed sculptures with exploding alien egg brain , a place of loud massive robotic creatures, clanking metal sculptures and insect-like beasts. They are all more crazy than the next and the journey end in the most surreal industrial dancing creatures I am not even sure how to describe alien meet labyrinth meet mad max meet INSANE AMAZING. Tried to illustrrate with photos of inside found online. .
Being quite tired due to not much sleep, afterward it was back on boat, local turkish kerbab and collapse
so pretty with curves everywhere
then next street urban beauty of another sort
Monster Kabinet entry
pretty building spotted walking about
loved the lampshade
the downstairs bit
back to monster...couldn't take photos as all happen in the dark and fast but that was those creatures
this was slightly mental
