Bali (day 10): Xmas and failed snorkelling [Jan. 14th, 2015|01:13 pm]
Thursday 25 December

After a day of ploding about , playing games, skyping families and too warm pool swimming, we even rented a film and i caught up on the apprentice final view you tube ( we were a bit bored). The hotel had some activities, but they were rubbish at advertising them (we constantly had to go to back to entrance hall to find out details and even for tours nothing had details or prices ).
They listed snorkeling at  4 pm at the dive centre next door, so silly us assumed it was with someone. Turned out to be just at 4 pm we open the cupboard and you can help yourself to old snorkeling gear and then do it yourself.
So next door was an access to the sea, more a boat ramp so super sliding with hundreds of crabs and nowheere to leave your belongings (so another vsiit to front desk to leave our stuff...i think  were were quite known by the end ) ....we somehow eventually managed to get into the water,  trying to avoid zillions of crabs, too murky to see much, lots of rubbish and ended up smashing our knees onto painful big rocks (later realise they were put there to recreate the coral).
Maybe a bit further would have been better but quite novice at this , so unsure to go to far by ourselves and all rather unpleasant.
So we gave up after a while and  were seen once again  passing by reception grumoing. At least we felt a bit refreshed by sea water.
They did offer one of their boat trip to go snorkeling later that night  , eventually also came up with a price but quite pricey (also turned out that to be where we ended up swimming the next day so good we didn't go for it)

Amusingly enough the only time i was unwell food wise was at their fancy restaurant, mega cool presentations but too oily...
