Monday 13 October
Spent the day exploring the castle ground, at first it felt a shame it was so wet and cold but in many ways it was glorious to have the castle gardens to ourselves and we managed to explore in between rainfall. What a beautiful place. I loved  its Italian gardens, the chess topiary , fountains, waterfalls and the water maze…that was so much fun although we got quite wet (well on top from the rain)

Hever castle was full of surprises expected an empty Tudor castle but didn’t realise it had all been refurbished in 1900 in a fabulous mock Tudor but so well done way. Actually fascinating and in many ways nicer to visit felt old although modern .  One to be visited.
“The oldest part of the Castle is the Medieval Council Chamber in the Gatehouse which dates back to the 13th century. Timber-framed Tudor additions were built in the 15th and 16th centuries by the Boleyn family and can still be seen.  Yet, much of what you see today is the result of the remarkable efforts of a wealthy American, William Waldorf Astor, who used his fortune to restore and extend the Castle in the early 20th century. Astor paid great attention to detail and insisted that his workmen used, as far as possible, the same materials and tools as Tudor and Elizabethan craftsmen.”
Sadly no photos inside
