Saturday 11 October (1)

Very excited to finally visit Hythe little  Ossuary, although now closed  , the vicarage were lovely enough to open it for us when we emailed them (I somehow always seem to be in kent when they are closed) . We took the scenic route from Hastings along the sea and had a little Napoleonic stop for Simon at a Martello tower. http://www.kentpoi.co.uk/historic/martello/index.html

Hythe is a pretty church above town with some interesting shape graves and a Chinese bench.  The Crypt/Ossuary in one the side of the church and houses the remains of some 4,000 men, women and children including around 2,000 skulls and 8,000 thigh bones. A little bit like a mini Paris catacombs. A great goths start of the day. We had a little walk into Hythe and then made our way to Scotney Castle via lots of pretty Wealds villages and stop in one for a lovely cheese board.

Glad you made it! It's such a cool little place. Hope you didn't get the grumpy tour guide this time.
