Morning rant [Oct. 17th, 2013|09:00 am]
MorbidFrog
Yearly rail europe booking rant.
I had to be up at 5am as they train tickets for December finally opened...then a few hours of frustration as all you get is the "in processing" and crashing. Tried on various home computers, gave up, went to work tried again still the same. As per usual seeing all the affordable tickets disappearing but unable to book. Finally their phone open at 9am...usual waiting time of near 40min (don't even want to think of the phone bill). I finally talk to someone by then all cheap tickets gone, even whilst attempting to book my ticket had gone too...so in the end i had to get an even earlier departure date (more annual leave to book) and return on New year eve itself(a very early start =sleepy to party), also had to pay phone booking fee and bloody expensive ticket...not great start of the day.

I like traveling by train easier to get to south of france , as no airport near by and also for suitcase full of presents both ways but gosh it just get more stressful each time.

That all sound horrendous :-( particularly having to leave on an earlier day.

How are you finding booking TVG tickets? SNCF are driving me nuts as the moment, as I'm trying to figure out getting to and from Italy, to go skiing in Feb. Some TVGs seem to only run one or two days in a month, and not even the same days every month, so trying to predict ahead what will be possible after Christmas is a complete nightmare.

i have never really used sncf myself ...because of the 2 countries i have to use rail europe as all in one but a friend suggested doing them separately so might have to try one year but from what my family tells me not easy site to use.

Ah, I didn't think to try Rail Europe.
SNCF online is _dire_ and always seems to send you via Paris, even if there are alternatives. I was using the German DB site, as that covers all Europe, but SNCF timetable is still quite mad and seems to change week to week.

Ludo lives in the North but doesn't even attempt to travel home at xmas or new year. I am lucky that my dad only lives 10 miles away!

i don't see them all year so so nice to go back at xmas as i know all my family will be together. Also work closed between xmas and new year so i can be there for 10 days and no need to take leave
