The Museum of Broken Relationships, a very interesting concept, it is spread over 2 sites, mostly odd object from a broken love story…each one has got a little story. The objects in themselves would not be as interesting but some have lovely, sad, unusual or obvious story attached. Also some artworks are dotted around. I really like the idea…and some of the display; especially in the Bates theatre was very good. It goes from piano to a mix tape, to cuddly toy and broken glasses…quite varied
this article describe it well:
In a bright room in Covent Garden lies a cuddly centipede with half its legs cut off. It belonged to a Bosnian couple in a long-distance relationship - every time they met they would snip off a limb. Once the creature was a full amputee it would be time to move in together, they decided. "Naturally the relationship went down and the centipede has not been 100 per cent disabled," sighs the caption. Now the centipede lies among the flotsam of a hundred affairs in the Museum of Broken Relationships. First conceived by ex-lovers Olinka Vištica and Drazen Grubišiæ, the original exhibition in Zagreb has become both a permanent museum and a touring circus, picking up new exhibits: a gnome hurled at a divorcing husband in Ljubljana, say, or a mixtape in Istanbul.
